They say some people are just "Born Leaders." As a kid, my mother and many others used to tell me that I was a "natural born leader." The way my mother tells it, I was 7 in Girl Scouts and she came to see a production that the Scouts put on. She asked the mom in charge at the end of the production how it was put together and she said, "Heidi wrote it, directed in it and starred in it." My proud mother quickly proclaimed, "she's a born leader."
In spite of my mom's urban legend, I basically don't believe that people are really born leaders. True leadership takes an intense understanding of exactly what other people need, want and envision - we are simply not born with this cognitive capability. However I DO believe that there are lots of leaders in our everyday lives, individuals whom we may not recognize as leaders, but their leadership is obviously present.
John Quincy Adams once said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
Who does this make you think of?
I think of a Parent.
Our children do not know what they want as infants, we pave the way of Possibility in front of them to encourage them to DREAM. We give them the resources to go to school and educate them at home so they continuously LEARN. We inspire our children to always DO more. We support our children to BECOME all that they can be. The Leadership Role we have as parents within our homes is more significant than any other role we play.
In searching for a leader in the MLM business I look for people who exemplify what books by John Maxwell said,
"Leaders must be close enough to relate to others, but far enough ahead to motivate them."
Personally, I would like a leader who has walked in my shoes, struggled to attain fame and can bask with me in the triumph of my accomplishment. The characteristics of good leaders I have experienced at Numis Network are individuals who inspire me, relate to me and encourage me.
It's not about being born a leader, it's really about Seeing It, Believing It, and Walking the walk, Talking the talk, and Leading the Team down the Road into its Future. A Very Bright Future!
Until the Next Time
