Some people will scoff and say that it is not going to do any good, but there are a number of herbal acne treatments that work. In fact, most of them will work better than expensive creams and ointments that dry out your skin or leave you susceptible to sunburns. Some are very simple and you may have what you need at home already and others will require a trip to a herb store.
A very simple, yet effective face wash can be made by preparing what is called an herbal infusion with water cress. What this really means is to pour boiling water over a handful of watercress and let is steep about 15 minutes. Strain out the water cress and let sit to cool. When you can stick your finger in it without it burning it is ready to use. Simply dab a cotton swab or wash cloth in the infusion and wipe your face with it.
Lemon juice is another good astringent for acne. Put about a tablespoon into a glass of very warm water and use it to wash with. You do not need to use any soap beforehand, just the lemon water will clean your skin. Do not use this if you have open sores though as the lemon juice will sting.
A steaming facial is a good way to get your pores open to clean out the sebum. Put some chamomile flowers into a pot of boiling water and wait for it to cool enough to place your face in the steam. Hold a towel over your head and the steam, keeping it all under the tent. Use a cool, clean wash cloth to wipe away the sweat and remove the sebum.
Honey is a wonderful antiseptic. When you are sitting around in the evening, dab some on any pimples. It will clean out the bacteria that causes the inflammations and clear up your skin.
Bentonite or red clay powder can make a great facial mask. Mix them together or use them alone with some apple cider vinegar to make a thick mud paste. Spread it on your face and let it dry completely and then wash off, trying not to scrub too hard. The powdered clays can be bought in an herb store. They work to pull any toxins to the surface and out of your pores.
Make a face scrub with ground oatmeal, chamomile tea and tea tree oil. Wash your face gently with it and warm water. After rinsing, use witch hazel as a toner. Your skin will feel very clean and soft. It is a very good way to start and end your day.
The herbal acne treatments that work do not only clear up blemishes and have your face and skin feeling clean and soft, they will not dry your skin out or cause any adverse side effects. Do not expect your pimples to be gone over night, but you will see improvement immediately in that they will not be so red and inflamed. Keep using them and you will see results in about a week, with continuing healing all the time.
